Rough Sleepers Community Read: Who Has Experienced Homelessness? In-Person
Join us to hear from people who have experienced homelessness, in their own words.
We will begin this program with a screening of Maine Voices of Homelessness, a video produced by Preble Street in Portland.
The video will be followed by two speakers from our community, who have experienced homelessness and are willing to share their stories for better understanding of this complex issue. There will be some time for Q&A at the end.
Speakers:
Jake Jakubowski works as an overnight shelter attendant at Tedford Housing’s adult shelter, where he resided non-sequentially for nearly 2 years. This experience has given him valuable insight into the needs of both guests and employees. In his free time, he enjoys producing and directing documentary films, as well as writing Wikipedia articles.
Kelly Ledsworth is a high school art educator who has overcome adversity experienced through her teenage years. Kelly graduated high school while living in a D V homeless shelter after years of abuse. Kelly hopes over the coming years she can provide help to youth in need and inspire others that they can survive and eventually thrive after immense trauma.
Special thanks to Preble Street for allowing us to show their video.
The Rough Sleepers Community Read & Program Series is sponsored by All Saints Parish and Curtis Library, in partnership with Housing Resources for Youth and the Southern Midcoast Housing Collaborative.
