Sustainable Brunswick: Silent Streams Pollution, Practices, Policy & Saving Brunswick’s Brook Trout In-Person
The Town of Brunswick and Curtis Memorial Library invite you to please join us Wednesday, August 20th from 6:00-7:30pm at Curtis Memorial Library in the Morrell Meeting room for a free lecture that explores the mounting pressures facing Maine brook trout as well as efforts to support local populations here in our community. From chemical runoff and non-point source pollution to sprawling development and out-of-date land-use policies, join us for a candid conversation with members of Trout Unlimited, Merrymeeting Bay Chapter, as we dive into the science behind cold-water stream ecology, the critical roll of macroinvertebrates, and the interconnected food web that supports biodiversity. Together, we'll examine how everyday human activity ripples through these fragile systems and what can be done - at both the policy and community level - to reverse the decline and protect one of Maine's most iconic species. With a mix of science and policy, we'll unpack smart decisions, cleaner practices, and community actions that can help bring the babble back to our silent streams. This is an in-person event – zoom will not be available. All are welcome, regardless of age or residency. Space is limited, please be sure to register below so that we can prepare the room.
