Teen Games: Monster of the Week TTRPG

Teen Games: Monster of the Week TTRPG In-Person

About the Program

This October, join us for a three-session tabletop role-playing game series at Curtis Memorial library where we'll be playing Monster of the Week: a collaborative, storytelling-driven game inspired by shows like Buffy the Vampire SlayerThe X-Files, and Supernatural.

In Monster of the Week, players create a team of monster hunters who investigate mysteries, face supernatural threats, and have to learn from their mistakes. The rules are light, flexible, and narrative-focused, making it easy to jump right in without needing hours of prep. This game holds major appeal for all those who love RPGS like Dungeons and Dragons, but also for those who just love high octane mysteries, lovecraftian darkness, and slick modern aesthetics. Newcomers are always welcome and it's a great system for those intimidated by the complexity of D&D, but still want to enjoy the thrills of collaborative storytelling with fun game mechanics.

What to Expect

  • Session 1: Learn the rules, create characters, and set the stage for our first mystery.

  • Session 2: Turn up the heat as we develop out characters, run high octane combat scenarios.

  • Session 3: The finale — wrap up the mystery with an epic conclusion.

Each session will last about 2 hours, and no prior experience is required. It is a 2d6 based system for all ye' dice goblins out there, but most importantly bring your imagination and a willingness to collaborate!

Monster of the Week deals with dark themes and subject matter of the PG13 variety including lite gore, eldritch horror, gun violence, death, adult language, murder, etc. Parental discretion is advised and welcomed.

About the Facilitator

My name is Elliott Nagler! I’m a lifelong tabletop gamer, actor, and game designer currently developing my own original role-playing game. I enjoy bringing people together to share in collaborative storytelling, and I especially love introducing new players to RPGs. There are so many wonderful tabletop games out there in addition to D&D, so I'm excited to show folks something new and fun!
