GROWING LITERACY: Growing and Producing Herbal Tea with the Bowdoin Organic Garden In-Person
Certified organic by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA), organic and no-till principals are central to the operation of the Organic Garden at Bowdoin College. Utilizing these growing methods, herbal tea production is just one of many projects at the Bowdoin Organic Garden. Join Bowdoin College’s Organic Garden Manager Lisa Beneman and student garden leaders to learn more about the college's Garden and how to produce your own homegrown tea! Lisa and students will share a step-by-step guide to establishing no-till organic garden beds and will share their success growing herbal tea plants. Participants will leave with new ideas and some tea.
This is a public event – parts of the event may be recorded and photographed.
This event is part of our annual Winter Garden Workshop Series: Growing Literacy! Every year, Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust, in collaboration with Growing to Give and Curtis Memorial Library, offers this event series to offer skill-building workshops and learning opportunities for gardeners of all abilities.
About the Speaker: The Organic Garden has been an integral part of Bowdoin College since 2005. Growing vegetables, fruit, and flowers for use in the dining halls is only part of the gardens’ purpose. The Organic Garden also provides a space to build community through shared work and educational workshops. Lisa Beneman has been farming professionally ever since she graduated from Whitman College. Originally from Maine, she spent a few years pursuing farm apprentice opportunities in Italy and the Pacific Northwest before returning home to Maine in 2015 to farm full time.
